About Vilca
Vilca is an Orlando-based artist who explores many different mediums, themes, and experimental processes to create an expansive body of work that includes charcoal, graphite, and ink drawing; acrylic naturalistic and surrealistic painting; and ceramic and wood sculpture. Currently attending UCF and pursuing a bachelor's in studio art, Vilca is beginning to create larger bodies of acrylic painting work that begin to focus on concepts such as loneliness and chaos while also exploring different painting and mixed media styles. Feel free to take a look at Vilcas's painting and drawing portfolios!
My story!
Hi! My name is Caro (you can call me Vilca), and I was born and raised in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, and have had a love for art since a very young age. I've always loved using polymer clay to create small sculptures, and I always had a sketchbook in my hand growing up. In 2014 my family moved to Florida, which was where my love for painting and art grew immensely. In high school, I always had issues expressing my emotions and properly talking about how I felt without expressing anger. In 2018 one of my dearest friends passed away, which sparked my love for painting even more. Lexi loved when I would doodle on her notebooks and hands during choir class, so I found myself doodling on everything and anything. Once 2020 came around and covid lockdowns began, I made a small painting studio in the corner of my room and found myself listening to music and painting or drawing all night long. I've always found a huge connection between music and art, and when I was beginning to learn form, value, color, and any elemental processes I needed to be able to produce the work I wanted, I began to create pieces that I believe resembled the music I was listening to at the time. Though I never took a proper art class in high school, my mom's friend Maria (an abstract artist based in Weston, Florida) began to teach classes in her home and slowly began to teach me proper painting techniques. Going into college, I knew I wanted to do art of some kind but did not believe it to be possible at the time. I took a few studio drawing classes so I could have a minor, and I quickly realized that this is what I am meant to do for the rest of my life. I love learning, and UCF has given me so many tools and resources I am very grateful for. I can’t wait to expand my body of work as I am still at the start of my career. If you want any more information or are curious as to what I’ve created with my own two hands, please take a look at my portfolios.
